Veteran Friendly Care Home

The Poplars is a beautiful sandstone residence set in mature gardens in the heart of Maidstone, Kent, offering a place of relaxation, peace and rest. Bright, airy bedrooms and characterful lounges, together with a generous patio and garden, create a warm atmosphere that residents and visitors feel from the moment they arrive.

Our nursing and care teams are on hand 24 hours a day, from companionship and support with daily living to round-the-clock nursing care and dementia care, and we can also offer residential care. People join us for a short respite stay, for a period of recovery, or to make the home their own for the longer term.

The home has 57 bedrooms, most with their own private bathroom, including 15 companion rooms for couples who wish to stay together. Several suites have been upgraded, giving residents a fresh, comfortable space to make their own. Days here are as full as residents want them to be, from time in the gardens to supported day trips to Canterbury and the Kent coast. Every detail is shaped around the individual, and the team and residents together create a family atmosphere where everyone feels at home. We look forward to welcoming you to The Poplars.

Nursing and Dementia Care, Day and Night

Our registered nurses and carers are here 24 hours a day, with a call system in every room and a GP available. We provide nursing care for residents with complex needs, for long-term and respite stays, and can also offer residential care with support for daily living, dressing and bathing. Every resident has a personal care plan, written with them and their family and reviewed regularly, so their care keeps pace as their needs change. Because we offer both residential and nursing care, residents can stay with us if they come to need more support.

For residents living with dementia, familiar things matter. We keep to the routines people know, and encourage families to bring in photographs and belongings so their room feels like theirs. Residents and families get to know the same faces, and the team gets to know them.

A Comfortable Home with Gardens to Enjoy

Residents are always welcome to furnish their room with their own furniture, photographs, bedding and books, so that it feels personal and familiar. Beyond the bedrooms there are bright communal rooms where residents welcome family and friends, enjoy visiting entertainers or settle down for a film, and the gardens are the place for a pot of tea on a fine afternoon.

Friendships, interests and a bit of laughter matter here, and activities are always optional and shaped around what each resident enjoys. Arts and crafts, quiz afternoons and flower arranging are regulars, with barbecues and garden parties in the summer, keep-fit sessions and musical evenings with visiting performers. We also work with Myley, a tour company that runs accessible day trips for people of all ages and abilities, for fully supported outings to Canterbury and the Kent coast. Family and friends are welcome any time.

Good Food, Adapted to Each Resident

Mealtimes are an important part of the day at The Poplars. We work with apetito, a leading provider of meals for care homes, whose recipes are developed by chefs, dietitians and nutritionists. Menus are developed with our residents, balancing favourites and seasonal variety, and we cater for texture-modified, diabetic and other dietary needs. Meals are shared in the dining room, which looks out over the gardens, and family and friends are always welcome to join.

Customer Feedback

Moving into a care home is a big step, and we take it at your pace. Before anyone moves in, we meet them and their family to understand their nursing care, medical and personal needs, working with any healthcare professionals already involved, and use this to put a personal care plan in place.

People come to us in different ways: some directly, some through a hospital discharge team or social services, and some after a short respite stay. Whichever route, we talk through funding and the options openly, and our Advice Centre explains how care funding works.

We encourage residents and families to visit first, to look around the rooms and gardens, meet the team and ask anything they like.

Rooms aren’t always available at short notice, so it’s worth getting in touch early if you think you may need one. Call the team at The Poplars, and we can talk you through availability and arrange a tour.
